Combat Rainforest Deforestation
Rainforests cover around 6% of our planet, they are important for many reasons. The University of Maryland estimates that we lost around 11.1 million hectares of forest in tropical areas during 2021. That’s the equivalent of 20.8 million football pitches!
But there is hope. We can all play a part in protecting rainforests by supporting rainforest conservation efforts, and by making more sustainable choices in our daily lives. If we act now, we can save the rainforest and ensure a future for our planet. Here are some ways you can help protect rainforests and save our planet:
- Support rainforest conservation efforts. This can be done by donating to charities or organisations working to protect rainforests, or by buying products from companies that have sustainable rainforest policies.
- Reduce your consumption of products that come from rainforests. This includes things like palm oil, beef, timber and coffee. Pay attention to labels and look for products that are certified as being sourced sustainably.
- Educate yourself and others about the importance of rainforests and the threats they face. The more people who are aware of the issue, the more likely we are to see positive change.
